Summer 2025 AI and Technology Issue

COVER STORY

EDITORS LETTER

I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am for you to experience this issue. It’s our most ambitious one yet; we’ve explored, tested, dug deep, and made sure to highlight the people who truly deserve the spotlight.

As 2025 comes to an end, we decided to close the year with an AI and tech issue. We’ve all seen AI at its best, and while some countries are stepping back to reclaim human-led projects, South Africa feels like it’s just getting started. AI expos and summits have taken over everyone’s feeds; the excitement, the praise, the tutorials, the curiosity. And with all that energy comes the other side: the scams, the psychological strain, the parts no one talks about enough. We’re unpacking all of it.

Hannah Govender sat down with the co-founders of Botlhale AI using AI for good and helping elders navigate technology and she also explores the world of AI relationships, including her own experience with an AI boyfriend. She dives into the moment where emotional connection shifts, and why people find themselves drawn to AI in the first place.

It is summer, so Sher Omar has your travel plans covered with smart, budget-friendly ways to explore, plus a look at the best places to dine in when in Cape Town. We also reviewed our first electric car, and trust us when we say Mufaro Mhariwa was genuinely impressed. He also takes us on a trip around the world, highlighting the countries already living in the future with their inventions and innovation.

Lwazi Thwala goes deeper with an exploration of South Africa’s car industry and the dangers of relying on AI and how to avoid chatgpt depndency. I share my return to fitness journey, this time guided by AI and our team put together gift guides to help you wrap up the year beautifully.

A special thank you to Pick n Pay Clothing, The Salt Road Houghton, the Alfa Romeo team, and the Modern Opulent crew for helping bring this issue to life.

Here’s to the end of 2025, and may 2026 lead with purpose, growth, and more of this.

May the Lord shine His glorious face on all of you.
