There was something delightfully unexpected about the bags that came down the 2026 runways. Designers leaned fully into novelty, offering pieces that felt playful, slightly surreal and completely conversation worthy. These were not the sort of bags that quietly blend into an outfit. These bags demanded attention, sparked curiosity and, in many cases, made people smile or left them a little confused.
Across the board, there was a clear embrace of unusual shapes, tactile finishes and a sense of humour. The line between fashion and art became increasingly blurred. Whether practical or just decorative accessories, these bags reminded us that fashion can still surprise us.
Dior: The Dior Bean

At Dior, Jonathan Anderson introduced the now much discussed Dior Bean. Inspired by a 1957 head pillow from the house’s archives, the bag took on a peanut-like shape that appeared in a range of colours and textures.
There is something intriguing about a bag that does not rely on sharp lines or obvious structure. The Dior Bean feels kinda like an object you want to hold rather than simply carrying the bag. It set the tone for a season where form was just as important as function.
Louis Vuitton: Storytelling Bags

Louis Vuitton approached novelty with a mix of whimsy and craftsmanship. One of the more dramatic pieces came in the form of small sacks tied to the ends of wooden sticks, a playful nod to travel and adventure. Slightly inconvenient; makes you wonder who would dare to carry that down the street. But we are here for it.

Then there was the cabin bag. The cutest, miniature wooden house but made to be a handbag. With its carefully rendered wood grain and crisp metal details, it felt like a tiny work of art. It embraced its own absurdity in the best way possible, leaning into fantasy while having an impressive level of craftsmanship. We couldn't help but think of the story of Little Red Riding Hood when looking at both these bags.
CHLOÉ: Bird Bag

Chloé brought a softer, more romantic spin to the trend with the Tropicus swan minaudière. Designed by Chemena Kamali, the bag featured a hand-painted swan silhouette in delicate pastel tones, finished with subtle gold accents and a detachable chain strap.
It felt whimsical and sweet. It's a piece that could easily transition from a statement accessory to a treasured collector's item. It feels as though it belongs in a storybook or on a cabinet next to the finest china and trinkets.
Loewe: Bug Clutch

At Loewe, the mood remained playful with the introduction of the bug clutch. Designed under the creative direction of Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, the bag featured a curvilinear shape with an oversized beetle attached.
It was slightly eccentric but really charming. Perfectly in line with Loewe’s ongoing exploration of humour in design.
Moschino: Everyday Bags
Moschino deserves a moment of appreciation for fully committing to the bit. The brand turned everyday objects into luxury accessories, transforming the ordinary into something worth carrying.

There was a cardboard box clutch detailed with branded packing tape, “FRAGILE” warning, and a “HANDLE WITH STYLE” directive. The bag is straight forward and feels super and random on a runway. We had to take a moment to talk about it.

Then there were the more playful additions, including a bucket bag with swans and various beach related images painted on and a bold orange handle as well as a cooking pot bag that leaned into the idea of domestic objects reimagined for fashion. These pieces felt humorous, absurd and unforgettable.

If 2026 has shown us anything, it is that bags are no longer just about practicality. They are becoming focal points, conversation starters and, in many cases, small pieces of wearable art. Yet another way of adding a dash of whimsy and personality to your outfit and better yet, to you day
As the year unfolds, it will be interesting to see how this sense of playfulness continues to evolve. The era of the safe handbag is taking a back seat, and the future looks far more imaginative.
