Humanity Has Lost Faith In Itself!
If you were to ask someone what they use AI for, they will say to write emails, design posters, write stories, create games, solve problems, write homework, generate images, and, more recently, make music, create movies and animations. Which is sad, because when did we stop knowing how to write our own emails? When did one become so clueless to the point that we can’t do simple mathematics?
I don’t see why AI was created, and I don’t see any amazing thing it does or has done. Who even asked for AI? Human beings have always been capable, they’ve always been innovators, hey’ve always been creative. All the big and mind-blowing buildings, inventions, stories, music, art and films that have shaped our world were created by human beings.
Lucas Museum of Narrative Art
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art opened recently, and the design, the hard work, and the years it took for it to come to life reminded me that humans have always been capable and we never really needed AI, in fact we don’t need AI. We are capable of doing such great and phenomenal things that AI is almost an insult to the hard work, creativity, thinking and problem-solving that humans have done throughout their lifetimes.
AI doesn’t think of anything new, it doesn’t think of new ideas. It uses work that humans have already made and created to do its own work. Question: why would we want some basic AI posters that everyone can tell are AI instead of creating something new, different and beautiful that has character and a human touch? Why would we want to create music that we can all clearly hear is AI when we can do so much better? Why would we use AI when we can do so much better?
Have we really lost faith in ourselves that we are willing to give up our thinking, problem-solving and creativity to AI? Have we really lost faith in ourselves that we would not even give ourselves a chance to produce new artwork, new nostalgic music, new mind-blowing graphics and movies?
How many new faces will we not see in our movies and magazines because an AI persona has taken their spot? How many voices will we not hear because AI has taken their spot on Spotify?
How many books will we not read because AI writers have taken their place on the shelves?

When Hayao Miyazaki said artificial intelligence is an insult to life itself, I have never agreed with someone so much in my entire life. Because what do you mean people are creating movies with AI personas and zero human beings? What do you mean people are firing employees to use AI agents? Do we have so little faith in humans that we would give all our faith to technology?

If you’ve seen the new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, designed by renowned architect Ma Yansong, then you will see that we don’t need AI. We are good! And if you’ve forgotten what a human being can do, let me remind you; a human created the movie Interstellar, a human created Canva, a human wrote Harry Potter, a human wrote The Odyssey, a human sang I Will Always Love You, a human choreographed the Moonwalk, and a human invented a car. So why do you think humans need AI to be great or to be innovative?
We’ve been innovative without AI; in fact, I think AI will only slow us down. While we are supposed to be learning, creating, inventing, trying new things and coming up with new ideas, we will be outsourcing our thinking, we will be outsourcing our creativity. And we will be held back by the thought that we don’t have time to do things ourselves and that we can't do things faster.
And in doing so, we will lose the very things that make us human. We will get used to the mediocrity of AI-generated content, things and music; and when we are so used to it, we will forget how to do anything by ourselves. And we will simply stop being human, and we will stop creating.
One thing that really makes my heart sad is that, in all the stupid things we use AI for, we are killing the planet along the way. As we use AI to create stupid songs, as we use AI to create ugly posters, as we use AI to do simple, basic thinking for us; more and more and more fossil fuel is being burnt, contributing to environmental damage and carbon emissions.
As we generate pictures of ourselves in the 1980s, as we create movies and animations using AI, the more it consumes massive amounts of electricity, water and raw minerals that strain natural resources and increase carbon emissions. What good is it to do all these silly, unnecessary and clearly AI-generated things if it also means destroying our own planet?
And the next time you think of using AI for anything, and I mean anything at all, remember my words "AI is stupid, and you are better than it," and you can qoute me on it.
