inDrive is taking a bold stand for South Africa’s ride-hailing drivers with a new initiative that lets them keep 99% of their earnings. Now live in Johannesburg and Pretoria, the 1% commission campaign is reshaping how the country views fairness and profit in the mobility sector.
Running from 1 November to 31 December 2025, the initiative reinforces inDrive’s global commitment to driver empowerment and transparent pricing. It arrives at a time when many drivers across South Africa have voiced growing frustration over high platform commissions and volatile fuel prices; a combination that has left many struggling to sustain their livelihoods.
With the new 1% commission, inDrive is giving drivers a larger share of every ride, while keeping transport accessible for riders. The platform’s peer-to-peer model allows passengers and drivers to negotiate their fares directly, creating flexibility and trust that traditional fixed-rate models often lack.
“South African drivers work incredibly hard and have been vocal about the need for fairer systems,” said Ashif Black, inDrive’s Country Representative for South Africa. “We’ve listened and we’re acting. With the 1% commission initiative, we’re ensuring drivers take home more of what they earn, while riders still enjoy the freedom to agree on fair, affordable fares.”
Even beyond this limited-time offer, inDrive maintains one of the lowest commission rates in the global ride-hailing industry, never exceeding 10.95%. The model supports long-term sustainability in a sector often criticised for disproportionately benefiting platforms over the people behind the wheel.
As protests and policy debates over driver compensation continue across South Africa, inDrive’s initiative presents a working example of how business models can be rebalanced towards fairness.
“We know that a sustainable transport ecosystem can’t exist without drivers who feel valued,” added Black. “Our goal is to keep proving that fairness and profitability can go hand in hand.”
By keeping the focus on people, not just platforms, inDrive is setting a new standard for what the future of South African mobility could look like: transparent, fair, and built to last.
