Under its “Cinema is Coming Home” vision, Sony has unveiled a new generation of BRAVIA Theatre home audio products, designed to deliver a more immersive and accessible cinematic experience for modern living spaces.

The expanded lineup introduces the BRAVIA Theatre Bar 7 and BRAVIA Theatre Bar 5 soundbars, alongside a suite of optional speakers including the BRAVIA Theatre Sub 9, Sub 8 and Rear 9. Together, the range is engineered to create a wider, more layered surround sound environment, bringing greater depth and realism to home entertainment setups.

At the centre of the range, the BRAVIA Theatre Bar 7 positions itself as a premium entry point into high-performance home audio. Despite its compact form, it houses nine speaker units, including up-firing and side-firing drivers that expand the soundstage beyond the physical limits of the device. Powered by Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology, the system creates a cinema-style surround effect from a single unit, while room calibration ensures audio is tailored to the space.

For those looking for a more streamlined setup, the BRAVIA Theatre Bar 5 offers a 3.1-channel configuration paired with a wireless subwoofer. It delivers strong bass, clear dialogue and a balanced performance profile, supported by S-Force PRO Front Surround, Vertical Surround Engine and Sony’s proprietary upmixing technology to create a three-dimensional sound experience.
Both soundbars support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, ensuring compatibility with modern streaming content, while integration with BRAVIA TVs allows users to control audio settings directly from their television interface. Features such as Voice Zoom 3 enhance dialogue clarity, while the BRAVIA Connect app provides intuitive control over sound profiles and system settings.

To extend the experience further, Sony has introduced new subwoofers and rear speakers designed to complement the soundbars. The BRAVIA Theatre Sub 9 and Sub 8 deliver deep, controlled bass through large driver units, with the Sub 9 featuring dual opposing drivers to minimise vibration and distortion. The Rear 9 speakers add height and dimension through up-firing drivers, completing the 360-degree surround effect.

Beyond audio, Sony is also expanding its television offering with the BRAVIA 3 II, a mid-tier model available in sizes up to 100 inches. Equipped with the XR Processor and XR Triluminos Pro, the display delivers improved colour accuracy, contrast and detail, while support for Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X ensures a fully integrated audiovisual experience. With 4K 120Hz capability and HDMI 2.1 support, the TV is equally positioned for gaming as it is for film and streaming.
Accessibility has also been considered in the design. The new Inclusive Remote Control features refined button layouts, improved spacing and tactile differentiation, alongside a Remote Finder function to make it easier to locate.
The BRAVIA Theatre Bar 7, Theatre Bar 5, Sub 9, Sub 8 and Rear 9 are set to launch in South Africa from July 2026.
