Sony Expands Its ULT POWER SOUND Range With Three New Party Speakers

Sony is making a strong case for turning your next gathering into something considerably louder. The company has announced three new additions to its ULT POWER SOUND range, the ULT TOWER MAX, ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5, designed for everything from house parties and karaoke sessions to DJ setups and outdoor events.

The new speakers are built around a combination of newly developed circular woofers, larger speaker cabinets and Sony's ULT DUCT technology, with the aim of delivering deeper bass and higher sound pressure. The idea is fairly straightforward: these are speakers designed not just to play music, but to make you feel it.

Sony has also brought a group of hip-hop sound creators into the development process, including Grammy-nominated producer Dot Da Genius, drummer, producer and musical director Daru Jones, record producer and DJ Dready, and audio engineer and producer Dennis “ROC.am” Jones. Their feedback was used to help tune the new speakers, particularly around low-frequency impact, clarity and the way vocals cut through the mix.

At the centre of the experience is Sony's familiar ULT button, but the new range expands the options with four sound modes. ULT1 is designed to enhance deep bass, while ULT2 pushes the power further with an even stronger low-end response. For listeners who want something closer to the original recording, FLAT aims to reproduce the music as intended, while LIVE is designed to create a more spacious, live-performance feel without sacrificing vocal clarity.

ULT TOWER MAX

The ULT TOWER MAX sits at the top of the new range, using three woofers, two facing forwards and one at the rear, alongside a high-powered amplifier capable of delivering up to 2,150 watts of output. It also features four tweeters and mid-range speakers, with Sony's 360° Party Sound technology designed to spread audio around the room rather than directing everything towards a single listening position.

ULT TOWER 7

The ULT TOWER 7 delivers up to 420 watts of output, while the more compact ULT TOWER 5 offers up to 300 watts. Both are designed to be easier to move around, with carry handles and, on the ULT TOWER 7, upgraded wheels with wider treads for moving across different surfaces.

That portability becomes particularly useful for anyone who does not want their party confined to the living room. The ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5 have IPX4 water-resistance in their vertical position, making them suitable for outdoor use, while the TOWER 7 offers up to 30 hours of battery life and the TOWER 5 up to 20 hours.

Sony has also paid attention to the spaces these speakers will actually be used in. Its enhanced Sound Field Optimisation technology analyses speaker placement and surrounding noise levels before adjusting the sound balance across the frequency range, rather than simply focusing on bass, helping maintain clearer and more balanced audio as the environment changes.

And because these are very much party speakers, Sony has packed in features designed to make them part of the atmosphere. Lighting modes include BEAT, which synchronises lighting with the rhythm, WAVE for more dynamic ambient effects and MELLOW for slower patterns during more relaxed listening.

Karaoke gets its own treatment too. The speakers can be paired with Sony's optional ULTMIC1 microphone, while the new Party Chain feature uses Auracast broadcast technology to connect multiple compatible Sony speakers and synchronise their music and lighting.

There is also plenty of flexibility for more serious setups. The range supports XLR, RCA and USB-C connections, while compatible speakers can be connected in stereo configurations for larger spaces and events.

Sony is also positioning the ULT range beyond the home, announcing a sponsorship agreement with Red Bull Dance Your Style 2026. The partnership will see Sony support events including the National Final USA in September and the World Final in Switzerland in October as an official wireless speaker partner, tying the ULT range to a community where music and movement are already inseparable.

The new speakers also incorporate recycled plastic into their construction. Approximately 35% of the total plastic used in the ULT TOWER MAX is recycled plastic, while the ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5 each use approximately 20% recycled plastic across their construction.

For South African consumers, the wait will not be particularly long. The ULT TOWER MAX, ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5 are scheduled to become available in South Africa from October 2026, giving anyone looking to upgrade their home entertainment setup, or simply make considerably more noise at their next gathering, three new options to consider.
