Inside Moozlie’s Dazzling Nails: Meet the Artist Behind the Art

When it comes to extravagant beauty statements, Moozlie; rapper, presenter, creative and all-around style icon never holds back. Her nails, in particular, have become a signature accessory, often more sculptural artwork than simple manicure. But the genius behind these high-impact sets is Jenet, a passionate and skilled nail technician and founder of Hotspot Beauty Bar in Fourways.

Raised in the East Rand, Jenet’s path to nail stardom began with her love for visual arts. “I’ve always loved drawing and painting,” she says. “[When] I saw how ladies love nails with detailed art and beautiful nails”, “I knew that this is what I am destined for.” After training at Tammy Taylor Nails in 2020, where she met Moozlie, she quickly worked her way up and launched her own salon in 2022. Their creative partnership? Instant magic.

“I could say she stuck with me since then because I build such beautiful nails on her.”

Jenet describes Moozlie as her muse and collaborator. While the multi-talented Moozlie often comes armed with Pinterest screenshots, it's her fashion-forward flair that shapes the final look. “With regards to inspiration, it's always Moozlie that looks for inspiration on Pinterest and we work on that,” says Jenet.

But in essence, “Moozlie is always the inspiration. I mean, she's an amazing artist with her dress style—then the nails, it just sums up her whole personality.” Jenet specialises in acrylic sculptured nails, a highly skilled technique that sets her work apart.

Unlike tips or pre-made extensions, this method involves building each nail from scratch using a combination of acrylic powder and monomer liquid, sculpted over paper forms that are placed at the edge of the natural nail. These forms act as a temporary base, allowing Jenet to shape the length and structure of the nail precisely to her client’s desired look—whether it's ultra-long stilettos, sharp coffins, or dramatic tapered squares.

Once the acrylic is applied and cured, the forms are removed, leaving behind a custom-made nail extension that is strong, durable, and seamlessly blended with the natural nail. This method gives her full control over the shape, thickness, and strength of the nails, crucial when working on intricate, heavy embellishments like 3D jewels, charms, or ornate metal appliqués that Moozlie loves.

It’s a time-consuming process but the results speak for themselves. Sculptured acrylics don’t just look good, they last longer, they’re more durable, and they give me the freedom to get really creative with the design.

For a style icon like Moozlie, whose nails are just as expressive as her wardrobe, this foundation is essential. Whether the design calls for gothic crosses, gemstone clusters, or delicate detailing, Jenet’s sculptured sets provide the perfect canvas—flawless, functional, and fiercely individual.

The Nails That Broke the Internet

Moozlie’s sets are a lesson in maximalism, and no two are the same. One look features long, coffin-shaped nails layered with smoky marble effects and silver gothic embellishments: crosses, roses, studs, and eye motifs create a dark romantic edge that perfectly contrasts her vibrant on-stage persona.

Another is a golden fantasy: stiletto-shaped nails entirely encrusted with gold crystals and rhinestones, catching light with every move. It’s rich, regal, and unapologetically extra.

Then there’s a festive, kaleidoscopic set that turns each nail into a jeweled treasure.

Featuring multi-coloured gems, faux pearls, and gold accents, it’s part holiday ornament, part couture accessory. These kinds of sets can take hours to complete, but that’s never an issue. “Her nail appointments can go for up to five hours and she will sit there patiently until I finish,” says Jenet. “She's the best.”

A Creative Force

Their working relationship has become a cornerstone of Jenet’s growing business. Since launching her own salon in 2022, Moozlie has continued to support her—frequently reposting her work and helping her reach a wider audience. “Working with Moozlie has definitely influenced my career,” Jenet says. “She will repost my work out of the goodness of her heart and I truly appreciate that.”

For nail techs aspiring to work with celebrities or creative forces, Jenet has clear advice: “You need to have a passion for nails—that's how you attract customers. Let your work speak for you. And focus. Put your energy on building your brand, and never try to do so many things at once. If it's nails you love to do, then focus your energy on that, then you'll see growth.”

So, what’s the dream set Jenet still wants to create? “The dream nail look I'll probably do on Moozlie's nails would be to draw her face.” Something which is truly personal, where each nail tells a piece of her story. With Moozlie’s fearless style and Jenet’s artistic vision, the sky isn’t the limit—it’s just the starting point.
