Sony has announced two major additions to its imaging lineup with the launch of the new Alpha 7R VI mirrorless camera and the FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS telephoto lens, both aimed squarely at professional photographers, filmmakers and hybrid creators.
Together, the launches signal Sony’s continued focus on high-resolution imaging, faster autofocus performance and tools designed for increasingly demanding creative workflows.
Leading the announcement is the new Alpha 7R VI, the sixth generation in Sony’s popular Alpha 7R series. The full-frame mirrorless camera arrives with an approximately 66.8-megapixel back-illuminated fully stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor paired with Sony’s latest BIONZ XR2 processing engine. Sony says the combination delivers faster performance, improved image quality and more intelligent autofocus capabilities for creators working across photography and video.

“The Alpha 7R series stands for image quality you can trust on screen, in print, and in the most demanding conditions,” says Yang Cheng. “The Alpha 7R VI takes that further with the speed, intelligence, battery life, and viewfinder quality our creators have been asking for.”
The camera supports blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30 frames per second and uses Sony’s updated Real-time Recognition AF+ system with skeletal-based human pose estimation for more accurate subject tracking.
Sony has also expanded its hybrid shooting capabilities with 8K 30p recording, oversampled 4K capture and improved handheld stabilisation for video creators.
A redesigned heat management system allows uninterrupted 8K recording for up to 120 minutes, while a new NP-SA100 battery promises up to 710 still images via the LCD monitor.
The Alpha 7R VI also introduces Sony’s Camera Authenticity Solution with C2PA support, allowing verification that images and video were captured in-camera rather than generated using AI tools.
Alongside the camera, Sony also introduced the XLR-A4 XLR adaptor designed to expand professional audio capabilities with support for 32-bit float recording and up to four-channel digital audio capture.
Sony also unveiled the FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS, the latest addition to its flagship G Master lens lineup for full-frame Alpha E-mount cameras.

Designed for wildlife, sports, birding and photojournalism creators, the lens covers a versatile 100-400mm focal range while maintaining a constant F4.5 aperture throughout the zoom range.
“Our creators want super-telephoto reach with G Master optical quality in a body light enough to shoot handheld all day,” says Jason Rego. “The FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS delivers constant F4.5 aperture, dramatically faster autofocus, and a build that keeps up with the user’s instincts.”
Sony says the lens delivers autofocus speeds up to three times faster than the previous generation thanks to four custom XD Linear Motors, a floating focus mechanism and updated autofocus algorithms. Subject tracking performance has also reportedly improved by approximately 50%.
The lens remains compatible with the Alpha 9 III’s 120fps continuous shooting mode while maintaining AF and AE tracking.
Despite its telephoto reach, Sony says the FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS has been designed with mobility in mind.
The lens weighs approximately 1,840g and uses an internal zoom structure to maintain a stable centre of gravity while shooting. Its optical construction includes newly developed ED XA, XA, Super ED and ED glass elements aimed at reducing chromatic and spherical aberrations while maintaining edge-to-edge sharpness.
Other professional-focused features include built-in stabilisation, breathing compensation support for video recording, four focus hold buttons and a dust- and moisture-resistant design.
The lens is also compatible with optional teleconverters, extending focal length capabilities up to 800mm or 1,200mm in APS-C mode.

Sony says the Alpha 7R VI, XLR-A4 adaptor and FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS lens will all become available from mid-July 2026.
