Sony is ending September with a sizeable wave of new products across its audio and imaging ranges, giving consumers and creators plenty to look at as the company refreshes everything from everyday wireless headphones to specialist G Master lenses.

The latest announcements cover four new products, including three additions to Sony's camera lens line-up and updates to its wireless headphone range. While the products serve very different audiences, they share a focus on giving users more choice, whether that means a different way to experience music or new creative possibilities behind the camera.

Sony's latest audio announcement focuses on three wireless over-ear and on-ear models, with the WH-1000XM4C leading the update.

Based on the popular WH-1000XM4, the WH-1000XM4C retains Sony's 1000X Series noise cancellation and familiar over-ear design while introducing updated sound tuning, a 10-band equaliser and new colour options. It is aimed at commuters, frequent travellers, remote workers, students and anyone looking for more immersive listening without the distraction of their surroundings.

The headphones will be available in Lavender, Black and Platinum Silver, with the foldable design also making them suited to travel.

Alongside the refreshed XM4C, Sony is adding the WH-CH730N and WH-CH530 to its more accessible headphone range.

The WH-CH730N combines noise cancellation with a lightweight, foldable design and up to 50 hours of battery life with noise cancellation switched on. A three-minute quick charge provides up to an hour of playback, while Multipoint connectivity, LE Audio and improved call quality make it designed for everyday use across work, study and entertainment.

The entry-level WH-CH530 focuses on straightforward wireless listening, with up to 55 hours of playback, customisable EQ settings and AI-powered noise reduction for calls. It also comes in six colours, including Cobalt, Coral and Mint, giving the model a more playful approach to Sony's headphone range.

Together, the three models give Sony a broader spread of wireless listening options, from the more premium 1000X experience to an accessible everyday pair.

Sony's camera division is taking things considerably further in terms of reach with two new G Master super-telephoto prime lenses for its full-frame Alpha E-mount system.

The FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS and FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS are both claimed by Sony to be the world's lightest lenses in their respective categories, weighing approximately 994g and 995g respectively.

That weight is significant for lenses designed around subjects such as wildlife, birds and sports. Sony has designed both with their centre of gravity closer to the camera body, helping photographers maintain framing, track moving subjects and pan while shooting handheld.

Despite their compact size, Sony says the lenses deliver the high resolution and smooth bokeh associated with its G Master range. Their optical designs use Super ED and ED glass elements to suppress chromatic aberration, while Nano AR Coating II is used to reduce flare and ghosting.

Autofocus is handled by two XD Linear Motors, with both lenses also featuring optical image stabilisation. They are compatible with Sony's Alpha 9 III and continuous shooting of up to 120 frames per second with AF/AE tracking.

The 400mm and 600mm can also be paired with Sony's optional teleconverters, taking their respective focal lengths as far as 800mm and 1200mm.

In South Africa, the FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS will retail for R59,999, while the FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS will retail for R84,999. Both are expected to arrive from mid-November 2026.

For photographers and creators looking for something considerably wider, Sony has also introduced the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G, its first fisheye zoom G Lens for full-frame Alpha E-mount cameras.

The lens covers a particularly unusual range of perspectives. At 8mm it produces a circular fisheye effect with a 180-degree angle of view, while at 14mm it moves to a diagonal fisheye perspective across the full frame.

That makes it a more creative proposition than a conventional wide-angle zoom, with Sony positioning it for landscapes, architecture, sports and video production.

Despite its capabilities, the lens weighs approximately 314g and measures 82.8mm in length. An internal zoom mechanism helps maintain its balance as the focal length changes, making it suitable for handheld shooting, gimbals and rigs.

The lens can focus as close as 0.15m and offers a maximum magnification of 0.22x at the telephoto end, allowing photographers and filmmakers to create exaggerated close-up perspectives.

It also has a practical application beyond conventional photography and filmmaking. When paired with two VENICE Extension System Mini units in a side-by-side configuration, the lens can be used for spatial content production, including VR, with the optical axes positioned approximately 64mm apart.

The FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G will be available in South Africa from mid-November 2026 at R81,999.99.

Sony's latest announcements cover a surprisingly broad section of its ecosystem. The headphone updates are about refining everyday listening and giving consumers more choice across different price points, while the new lenses are aimed at photographers, filmmakers and content creators looking for very specific capabilities.

The common thread is ultimately flexibility. Whether it is the ability to tune your listening experience, shoot a distant subject handheld or move between circular and diagonal fisheye perspectives, Sony's latest releases are about expanding what users can do with its existing platforms.

For South African consumers, the new products also bring some of Sony's latest global announcements into the local market, with the new lenses scheduled to arrive from November and the refreshed headphone range expanding the company's offering across several different types of listeners.
