The Summer I Turned Furry: Spring/Summer ’25 is All About the Furry Strands and Accent Feathers

As the leaves shapeshift from autumn browns to luscious greens, and the roses blossom into full buds, there is another forecast predicted to sweep the high fashion streets. For Spring/Summer 2025, designers showcased their stories in a series of dangling feathers and fluffy dresses. Prepare yourself because we’re expecting an explosion of colourful, furry feathers.

It’s no doubt that nature in her most organic form was the soul of the Spring/Summer 2025 collections last year. Nested in between the aqua blues, sheer fabrics and intricate lacing was the ‘feather accent’, wrapped around the sleeve cuffs or fringed on shoulder tops. It was Burberry who first debuted the feathery motif, an attachment half-coned on top of bulky, rain coats. It was a delicate touch to the brand’s overall rigid range of buckled jackets, striped blouses and zipped trousers. The plumage caplets were a thoughtful addition, sophisticated and concise.

Chanel, too, featured flocks of feathers, scattered on the rims of the cuffs and on the edges of tweed sets. Harmonized by the ruffles and soft layering, the plumy strands sat on collar flaps and as loose threads on the rosette broches. The abstract feather earrings and bird cage chokers, embellished in crystals and pearls, captured the collection’s subtle acknowledgment of nature’s most elegant creatures.

And finally, Jacquemus approached a similar tactic, trimming feathers down the sides of the white trousers and patched on the large skirts. With polka dots and bananas being the main motifs of the La Croisiere collection, plummages were repeated in refined ways. Closing the show was a monstrous coat, paired with a matching skirt, materialized from thin furry strands in a light beige.

We expect to see more feathers this Summer, attached onto floral accessories, knitted into blouses and cuffed on sleeved dresses. Taking inspiration from wildlife is a rather common phenomenon in fashion and this season it was all about the birds. From Stella McCartney to Chanel, designers have shared their political views on animal slaughter in the most satirical yet stylish way.
