Eduvos to Spotlight AI Learning and Esports at Comic Con Cape Town 2025

Comic Con Cape Town 2025 is about to welcome a new kind of superhero to its stage: South Africa’s own AI-education leaders. Eduvos, one of the country’s leading private higher education institutions, will step into the spotlight this year, bridging the worlds of artificial intelligence, creativity, and competitive gaming. Taking place from 1 to 4 May at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) 2, the event promises to showcase how education is evolving for a digital future.

Eduvos is no stranger to Comic Con. Since 2023, the institution has been a familiar presence, hosting esports tournaments in collaboration with RGB Gaming. Now, in 2025, Eduvos is breaking new ground, not only exhibiting, but also delivering headline talks, making them the only higher education provider to do both.

Her session, “Reshaping the Future of Higher Education with AI”, will take place on Friday, 2 May at 1:30 pm. She’ll dive deep into the growing impact of artificial intelligence on traditional learning environments and the new opportunities it brings to both students and educators. Dr. de Klerk will discuss how AI is not here to replace critical thinking, but to empower it: preparing students for an AI-powered workforce that demands innovation and adaptability.

“Having built our presence at Comic Con over the years, we’re excited to take things further by sharing Eduvos’ vision for an AI-driven future in education,” says Dr. de Klerk. “We’re working hard with our AI committee to ensure responsible integration of AI in the curriculum, and we’re determined to cultivate the critical thinking skills students need to thrive in this new age.”

At 2:30 pm, Dr. Riaan Steenberg, Executive Director of Eduvos, will deliver his session, “The Impact of Esports & Education: Bridging the Critical Skills Gap in South Africa”. Dr. Steenberg will examine how esports is shaping the development of critical skills like strategic thinking, teamwork, and digital literacy, competencies highly valued by employers across industries. His talk will also showcase Eduvos' innovative approach to integrating esports into formal education pathways, empowering students to gain career-relevant skills while participating in their passion for gaming.

“Esports isn’t just about competition; it’s about creation and collaboration,” says Dr. Steenberg. “With over 2,000 developers emerging from Eduvos annually, we’re preparing the next generation of tech innovators who will shape Africa’s digital future. Esports, AI, robotics, and extended reality all play a crucial role in the immersive, real-world learning experiences we offer.”
